Essential MSU Apps

Are you lost on campus? Do you need a bus? Do you want to know what’s for dinner at Brody? There are apps for that! Michigan State has a variety of apps designed to make your life easier as a student.

The first app that is an absolute must have for students is the MSU app. This app is designed by the university and allows you to have a more efficient time on campus. The most helpful feature on the app is the map. This map can show you all of campus and help you find campus locations easier. It also can show you where you are on campus, so you can find your way to where you need to be. In addition to this, it shows you where important locations on campus are, such as the campus police station, office of financial aid, the office of the registrar, and other locations. You can also upload you schedule to the app, so you can have everything conveniently in one place. Finally, it has all the dining locations on campus and what is on the menu for each meal each day. I use this app all the time to see what’s for dinner at my dining hall!

MSU Civic Life is a good app for specifically Citizen Scholars to have. Part of your discovery phase is to have community service hours and this app helps you find them. Using this app, you can explore different opportunities both on and off campus to help you find a project you feel passionate about. Through this app, you can post different opportunities others explored by working for the community.

In general, many buildings at MSU look similar, so it is helpful when you are first arriving on campus to have the MSU Guide app. This was created for students with disabilities to navigate campus, but it is truly helpful to anyone. The most valuable feature of this app is the wand where you can point at buildings and it will tell you which one it is. This is great if you are not familiar with campus quite yet. This app was essential to me in finding buildings all over campus and avoid getting lost too much.

The final app that I would recommend is Transit, which is the app that helps you track CATA buses. This can tell you when the next bus comes and where each bus goes. I find this app to be more accurate with the actual bus times, than what I might find on other apps. It makes getting across campus so much easier if you know what time the bus comes and where it is.

These MSU apps are absolutely essential to any student. They are a way of making you feel a bit more comfortable with where you are. The fact is everyone at MSU felt hopelessly lost in their first bit of school, and now with technology this massive transition that you have is a bit easier.
