National Council Of Teaching English, or NCTE, is an organization on campus that gives future English teachers support and resources to teach English. This group provides a wide variety of opportunities on how to better teach English in a classroom.

One way they do this is through a variety of events that members can go to. For example, some members this year went to MCTE, which is a Michigan conference for teachers to learn new and innovative ways of teaching. Also, I personally went to an event that discussed teaching the novel The Hate U Give in classrooms. This event helped me be able to develop ideas on how to have open conversations about racism and inequality in a productive way.

Another thing we do is we bring in one teacher that we are really inspired by each year. In 2019, we brought in Jessyca Matthews, who is a teacher in Flint who is inspiring her students to pursue social justice. Listening to her speak was amazing because she shared with us a lesson plan that we could use in our classroom.

Finally, we have won awards! We have won the student affiliate award for all that we do four years in a row!
