The beginning of the 2021 school year looked immensely different from the start of the 2020 school year. The campus has been filled with excitement, lost Freshmen (and Sophomores), and a lot of lively activities.
The Citizen Scholars started out the school year with a welcome event on August 30th where we heard from Dean Long, Dr. Stacia Moroski-Rigney, and LaDonna Croffe about the Citizen Scholars program and the upcoming school year. It also gave everyone a chance to introduce themselves in person rather than through a computer screen. To make things even better, there were free water bottles, stickers, shirts, and really tasty cookies.
The next welcome event was the CAL Fall Welcome which took place on August 31st. We started out with a Zoom meeting where we heard from Dean Long and then our academic advisors. Afterwards, everyone attended the CAL Resource Fair where several different programs within the College of Arts and Letters (including Citizen Scholars) were there ready to help whoever needed it.
September 9th included a Zoom meeting with Dr. Stacia Moroski-Rigney, LaDonna Croffe, and first and second year Citizen Scholars. We discussed Citizen projects and the steps that need to be taken to complete them.
There’s a lot more Citizen Scholars events planned for Fall 2021 the next one being September 21st where we will have a discussion on ethics. We look forward to hearing all about this from all of our very passionate Citizen Scholars. The fall semester is going to be full of Citizen comments, cinema, and consults and we cannot wait to see all of our members on September 21st for the next event!
